Main Dealers for Peugeot and KSR  Nottinghamhire and Lincolnshire

The picture on the left shows the business as it was in 1930 with Frank Pratt standing on the left and Bert Gelsthorpe second from the right joined by two employees plus an Ariel and its owner, on the right the  picture shows ourmodern extensive scooter showroom as it is today.

Originally an engineering company also selling bycycles and motorcycles the partners were in demand by local companies for the engineering skills they could offer, from the cellar they generated the electricity supply for the local hospital,  cinema and many private houses prior to the national grid being formed.

Two wheels were closely followed by four in 1923 with the addition of an Austin franchise, an arrangement that ended after 65 years with the demise of Austin Rover, causing a switch to Peugeot that has never been regretted.

When Frank Pratt retired, Bert Gelsthorpe assumed total ownership and management of the company and was later  superceded by his son John and in time by his grandson Richard.

Richard, the current  managing director, can be found working every day, backed by a long serving team who together ensure that the high standards which have sustained the company over the years is constantly maintained.

Although steeped in tradition the company has always been at the forefront where innovation and technical advances are concerned and all staff are constantly trained to keep abreast of technical developments along with the latest equipment needed to service todays modern machines.

The garage though much expanded is still based at the original site in the centre of Newark.

How it began

A Long History  1919 - 2016

A post first world war startup by two friends, Fank Pratt and Bert Gelsthorpe, marked the beginning of one of the oldest family owned garages in the UK.
